Abraham Ridings Jr., 52, of Fairhaven died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 11, at Brook Haven Hospital in Long Island, N.Y. He was the husband of Cecelia (Cabral) Ridings. Born in Fairhaven, son of Bertha (Verity) Ridings of Fairhaven and the late Abraham Ridings, he was a lifelong area resident and was a communicant of St. James Church. He was formerly employed by the fishing vessel Texas as a fisherman.
Survivors in addition to his wife and his mother include two sons, Abraham Ridings III of New Bedford and Courtland Ridings of Mattapoisett; three daughters, Theresa Ridings and Vanessa Pierce, both of New Bedford, and Sandra Adams of Burbank, Calif.; three stepsons, David Simpkin of Fairhaven and Donald and Kevin Simpkin, both of New Bedford; two stepdaughters, Pam Haller of Concord and Robin Simpkin of Fairhaven; four sisters, Bertha Silva and Phyllis Carvalho, both of Fairhaven, Mary Rose of New Bedford and Marguerite Curliau of North Dartmouth; a brother, William Ridings of Rochester; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Abraham G. Ridings had been a fisherman for thirty years, some of that time on the Texas. He died at Brook Haven Hospital, Long Island, New York, on February 11, 1993.
